Every dancer has there insecurities and feels self-conscious at some point in there dancing career. This is a completely normal feeling, however the sooner you find your inner strength and self-confidence the sooner you will develop your dancing skills.

Sometimes dancers are mistaken for being over confident and at times cocky, this is often there dancing alter ego and not the real them.

Take Beyoncé for an example, she is Beyoncé by day and ‘Sasha Fierce’ when she performs. She has created this character to use as a cover up for the real her. Sasha Fierce is a strong, independent woman, who is confident, bold and stands out in a crowd. This alter ego had made her the performer that we all want to be.

‘I have someone else that takes over when it’s time for me to work and when I’m on stage, this alter ego that I’ve created that kind of protects me and who I really am, she is confident and successful and helps me to be the best I can be without letting my insecurities creep in”

Beyoncé Knolls, Sep 2012

So the key is, create yourself a character. Someone who is not scared of being at the front and has self-belief and watch the results unfold. You will no longer be the dancer at the back who is worried what other people think, or the dancer who thinks they look silly if they give it too much energy….you will be the dancer that stands out!
